Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is adamant the Premier League title race is still wide open despite Arsenal and Liverpool slipping up at the weekend.

The defending champions returned to the summit on Saturday after thrashing Luton Town before watching their nearest rivals fell to home defeats to Crystal Palace and Aston Villa respectively the following day.

It leaves City two points clear with six games of the league campaign remaining having been three points off the top themselves in early April.

City are chasing an unprecedented second successive treble with the FA Cup and Champions League again in their sights.

But with plenty of hurdles still in the way, Guardiola insisted there will be more twists to come while laughing off statistical supercomputer predictions that have followed the title race at every turn.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg showdown against Real Madrid, the City boss said: ‘What is two points difference?

‘When we were two points down on Arsenal and Liverpool, I was thinking we have to do our job, it is not over.

‘Now we are two in front, it is not over. It is the same feeling I have in previous weeks when we draw against Arsenal and people say, “no chance because of the computer”.

‘The computer says this or that, I don’t know if the computer can play left back or right back , I don’t know how to discover that. But the computer says you have no chance and now you have a chance.

‘Nothing changes for me. Six games left, we have a lot of difficult games home and away. We have [difficult games] and both of them [Arsenal and Liverpool] have too.

‘It is one game at a time and that means Real tomorrow and it is step by step. I only started to think of the treble when we beat [Manchester] United in the FA Cup final last season.

‘But the success for me this season is that we are there. To still be in this position, in contention, is incredible.’

City and Real fought out an incredible 3-3 draw in the first leg at the Bernabeu last week with the Premier League side hoping to replicate last season’s demolition job on their own turf in the second leg on Wednesday.
