‘People just want to pay their bills’: Waning support for Labor’s Green dream
Australians are losing faith in Labor’s climate targets as they are too focused on trying to pay their bills, PR Counsel’s Managing Director Kristy McSweeney says.
Latest data from an SEC Newgate Mood of the Nation poll shows only two in five Australians believe the country will achieve net zero emission-reduction targets by 2030 and 2050.
“What I found really interesting about the results of this poll … was in issues that people care about unprompted, health care and crime, is leading as the top two unprompted concerns ahead of any concerns they have around climate change,” Ms McSweeney told Sky News Australia host Chris Kenny.

“Primarily because people just want to pay their bills.
“You can’t reach those targets unless you do it by pure stealth, which seems to be what is occurring.”
