The Philippine Coast Guard in Southern Tagalog seized a commercial boat on Tuesday that was allegedly used in illegal fishing operations.
According to the PCG, the boat, FV Prince Shann Shann, was ‘’actively conducting illegal fishing within municipal waters’’ some seven to eight kilometers away from the shoreline of Barangay Dalahican, Lucena City.
‘’The illegal fishing operation involved the use of active fishing gear with unauthorized paraphernalia,’’ it added.
The fishing boat, along with the confiscated paraphernalia, has an estimated market value of P50 million.
‘’The owners/operators have willingly placed the vessels under waiver custody while investigations are underway. Appropriate charges will be filed in accordance with the law,’’ the PCG said. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
