Pat McAfee tried to make Patrick Mahomes’ appearance on Raw make sense
Getting Patrick Mahomes on this week’s episode Raw from Kansas City was a great get for WWE. An appearance by the quarterback of the back-to-back Super Bowl champions would’ve been a big deal anywhere, but it was an especially big deal in the city the champs call home.
Which is why several wrestling fans and pundits have wondered why Mahomes helped a heel Logan Paul as he was taking part in the assault of a babyface (Jey Uso) on the April 29 episode. Sure, the KC Chiefs’ QB is a spokesperson for Paul’s Prime energy drink, but that’s behind the scenes. In-storyline, the town’s biggest star lent his Super Bowl rings to a jerk so he could use them to try to knock out one of WWE’s most pop popular good guys.
It didn’t work out though, which is key to Raw color commentator Pat McAfee’s attempt to sell Mahomes entire appearance as part of a big babyface plan. Pat Mac offered his spin yesterday (April 30) on his ESPN/YouTube show:
“Last night, Logan Paul, with an assist from the Judgment Day, came out and started attacking him. Logan Paul, founder of Prime, comes over to Prime athlete Patrick Mahomes, he’s sitting front-row. He usually uses brass knucks, didn’t have his, so instead he gets [Mahomes’] three Super Bowl rings. What did you call it, Nick? He literally put a dynasty on Logan Paul’s right hand, right in front of an entire crowd that wants to ‘YEET’, and he goes to punch him in the face.
“Patrick Mahomes, why’d you help him? Well, Pat knew what Jey Uso was gonna do — duck.
“JD McDonagh eats three Super Bowl rings. It was absolutely bananas. Now, Finn Bálor — with the YEET glasses on that he stole from Jey Uso — and Logan Paul realize what they’ve done. ‘Oh, no, that wasn’t how it was supposed to go.’
“Well, Patrick Mahomes and Jey Uso knew exactly how that was gonna go. [Laughs] ‘That was awesome. JD McDonagh with three Super Bowl Rings’ to a forehead.’ Then all of a sudden, Jey Uso and Finn Balor finish their fight. Logan Paul gets the hell out of the way, and then they all escape. Patrick Mahomes, you ask him, ‘What are you doing? Why’d you do that?’
“I like to think that Patrick Mahomes is always playing chess. He knew that with the amount of time Logan took to wait, how stupid JD McDonagh is, Finn Bálor’s speaking in an Irish accent so you can’t really understand what he’s saying — he knew he’d be able to move when those things came in, and they did.
“So thank you Patrick Mahomes for helping Jey Uso. It was all right in the end. I know Patrick Mahomes was working with the good side, even though everybody on the Internet said, ‘Oh, he just fully embraced being a heel. Go ahead and [gave] some Super Bowl rings to Logan Paul so he can put them in the YEET man’s mouth.
“I don’t think that’s what Pat was doing. Patrick Mahomes is a future GOAT. He wouldn’t want to help out somebody hurting The YEET Man. Patrick Mahomes was doing the right thing.”
Doesn’t really explain the scene where Mahomes and two of his offenive lineman bucked up to Braun Strowman after the returning big man chased off Paul & Bálor… but I guess we can chalk that up to Patrick playing chess while everyone else was playing checkers, right Pat?
Or Mahomes did just confirm he’s the villain a lot of NFL fans outside of Kansas City already think he is?
