packers make important roster move just days before 2024 nfl draft

Andre Dillard

The 2024 NFL Draft will kick of on April 25, but Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst is already cooking.

The Packers have done a great job of roster construction over the past few seasons. So much so that despite the fact that they moved on from four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers last spring, the Pack are once again a Super Bowl contender.

Yes, that has much to do with the evolution of Rodgers’ successor, Jordan Love, but credit to Gutekunst as well. He has done a great job keeping the organization future-focused.

Which is why it shouldn’t be surprising that Gutekunst is still signing players with just a week to go until the NFL Draft.

Tackle Andre Dillard is the newest member of the Packers.

While Dillard isn’t the splash signing that safety Xavier McKinney was for the Packers, he does represent an important roster move.

Green Bay has always valued the “swing tackle” – meaning the versatile third tackle on the roster who can come in for “big” packages or be the first off the bench at either right or left tackle in injury situations – and that’s seemingly the role Gutekunst has in mind for Dillard.

Dillard, who checks in at 6-foot-5, 315-pounds, was pick No. 22 overall for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018. He struggled with consistency and injury in Philadelphia but had the best season of his career last year with the Tennessee Titans, where he started 10 games before being cut in March.

Again, Dillard’s no superstar, but he does represent veteran depth on the offensive line – which is vital for a Super Bowl-contending team.
