Ahmed insists the team’s ultimate goal remains securing the coveted World Cup trophy and not beating India.

“Our target is not to win against India or Canada because we just want to win the T20 World Cup and our team is fully capable of it,” Iftikhar was quoted as saying by Geo News.

“We would have no excuse for not winning the tournament,” he added.

Pakistan are placed in Group A alongside India, the United States, Canada, and Ireland.

Ahmed also expressed confidence in the Pakistan’s T20I squad led by Babar Azam. He also stressed that he is comfortable fitting into any combination required by the team management.

“I have played at every batting position in domestic cricket, including at numbers 4 and 5. In the Pakistan team, you don’t have a choice; you play wherever you fit into the combination. I have confidence in my abilities to perform well for Pakistan at any position and in any condition. I’ve discussed this with management, and they believe it is more appropriate for me to bat after 12 overs,” Iftikhar said.

The T20 World Cup kicks off in June, with Pakistan’s much-anticipated clash against India scheduled for June 9th.
