Alamus Move effects 10 sections of Hwy. across the province. That’s about 860 kilometers of the province’s Hwy. network in total. The Transportation Minister says that this is a common sense change that will make life more convenient for motorists. Now it’s a quite a long list and we have those details on our website globalnews.ca. The increase comes into effect on July 12th and know that it isn’t impacting stretches right here in the GTA, but we’re told that these are the sections of Hwy. that can accommodate the higher speed limit. Of 110 kilometers per hour. Now, this did all begin with consultations and a pilot back in 2019. And then in 2022, the 10 kilometer per hour increase was introduced on six other highway sections. We get more now from the Transportation Minister. Many people don’t realize is until 1975. Highways 404-O1417 and AQEW had speed limits over 110 kilometers until they were reduced in response to the energy crisis. In fact, much of Ontario’s Hwy. network was originally designed for speed limits of 110 kilometers per hour. We’re going to hear a little bit later in the show from the OPP and OPP, Sergeant Carrie Schmidt has a message that despite this increase in speed. Speeding and aggressive behavior on the roads is still a top killer on the roads and something to be wary of. And he also points to something that will not change despite this move Throwback to you. OK. Thanks Karen.
