A new brain teaser asking people to find a broom amid a pile of clothes claims one-third of people can’t solve it while others can locate the item within seconds.

This puzzle was released by Hammonds Fitted Furniture which claimed it takes about a minute to solve the puzzle, but the longer you search for the broom, the harder it is to find.

The company promised the broom does exist, and if you’re unsure, just look toward the edges of the image.

If you couldn’t find the broom right away, don’t feel dismayed, you may just have a different way of thinking.

Some brain teasers test mathematical or lateral thinking skills and others, like the ‘find the broom’ brain teaser, work to test your observational skills.

In this case, the company said: ‘While the task may seem simple, the longer you look at the image, the harder it gets to spot the missing broom amid the colorful mess on the wooden floor.’

These types of puzzles enhance how the prefrontal cortex functions – which controls cognitive abilities including thinking, decision making, concentration and problem-solving.

When you solve a brain teaser, it increases the amount of dopamine your body produces – a chemical that regulates memory, concentration and mood – each time you solve a puzzle.

‘Working on a puzzle reinforces connections between brain cells, improves mental speed and is an effective way to improve short-term memory,’ according to Progress Lifeline.

So if you gave up on finding the broom, it might be a good idea to try again.
