Omari Hutchinson goal confirms promotion to the Premier League for Ipswich Town
Ipswich Town are back in the Premier League after a 22-year absence, having finished second in the Championship and thus earned the second automatic promotion spot behind Leicester City. Leeds United, who tumbled from the top two thanks to three defeats in their last four, plus Southampton, West Brom, and Norwich City will contest the playoffs.
Ipswich needed a win on the final day (or at least a better result than Leeds) to confirm their place, and they got both, beating Huddersfield Town, 2-0 while Leeds lost at home to Southampton.
And it was Omari Hutchinson’s goal early in the second half to make it 2-0 and start the celebrations early at Portman Road — a fitting way to end the season for the 20-year-old, who finishes with 10 goals and 6 assists in the league, almost all of them coming at crucial times and game-changing moments. An excellent first full senior professional campaign for the youngster!
Hutchinson has just one year left on his current Chelsea contract, so we’re going to have to address his situation right quick.
