Oilers Fate in Vancouver Canucks Hands

EDMONTON — Two games remain on the Edmonton Oilers schedule.

Only two more games and then the real season begins – the Stanley Cup Playoffs. To get there, the Oilers have to play the Arizona Coyotes and the Colorado Avalanche. After demolishing the San Jose Sharks by a 9-2 margin, there isn’t much to compete for before the big dance.

Connor McDavid got his 100th assist last night – but he is too far away from the NHL scoring lead to consider playing him heavy minutes to try to make up the gap between him and Tampa Bay Lightning’s Nikita Kucherov.

Kris Knoblauch is watching tonight’s Vancouver Canucks game, as whatever happens will have a direct impact on the Oilers approach to the final two games. The Canucks play against the Calgary Flames – and are only three points up on the Oilers. Both teams have two games remaining.

The Canucks need to lose in regulation in order for the Oilers to have a shot at winning the Pacific Division title. The Oilers can finish the season with 108 points at the very most.

So realistically, the Canucks need to lose both of their remaining games. But if they lose tonight, that may give the Oilers some hope that they could finish in first.

All eyes turn to tonight’s Canucks – Flames match up.
