BRIT Award 2024 nominations in full as Raye leads nominees with seven nods

The BRIT Awards 2024 nominations are finally out!

Over the past 12 months, singers from across the globe have been preparing for the star-studded ceremony in March of this year, with the hopes of finding themselves nominated for an award. This year, the likes of Fred Again.., Libianca, Venbee, Caroline Polachek, Ella Henderson, Romy Niall Horan, Claire Richards, Scouting For Girls, The Reytons and McFly found themselves eligible for a nomination from the BRITS Voting Council.

But while some artists were celebrated, the likes of Tom Meighan, the former frontman of Kasabian and Slowthai being eligible sparked fury. Meighan was convicted of domestic assault in 2020 having assaulted his partner Vikki Ager in the same year. Pop royalty, Mel B MBE stated she was “deeply disappointed” by Meighan being shortlisted following the release of his solo album, The Reckoning being eligible for Album of the Year, Best British Rock/Alternative Act and Artist of the Year.

Central Cee has found himself nominated for a string of awards

Today, the official nominations were released by the academy across their official Facebook and Instagram accounts. Presented by Yinka Bokinni, fans got to see interviews with some of the nominees as well as an appearance from Radio 1 DJ, Jack Saunders.

It was also announced that Dua Lipa will be performing at the 2024 ceremony.

Following a diversity row, there has been a dramatic change for the BRITS. Last year, they sparked fury when it emerged no female musician had been nominated for Best Artist. In 2021, the categories for Best Male and Best Female were merged into one category.

Upon collecting the gong last year, Harry Styles made a nod to the unfairness and named Rina Sawayama, Becky Hill and Charli XCX while acknowledging his “privilege” as a male artist. This year, bosses behind the awards have increased the number of shortlisted stars from five to ten.

This year, the BRIT Awards return to London’s O2 Arena on Saturday, March 2, and will be broadcast across ITV and ITVX. The official BRIT Award, sponsored by Mastercard for this year has been designed by British visual artist and painter, Rachel Jones. She follows in the footsteps of the likes of the late Dame Vivienne Westwood, Tracey Emin, Slawn and Sir Phillip Treacy.
