The Met Office has issued a new weather warning indicating ‘frequent snow showers’ may occur on Wednesday and Thursday.
The latest Yellow Warning was issued shortly after 10am on Sunday morning.
It states: “Frequent snow showers are likely to cause further disruption to travel during Wednesday and Thursday.”
A map released by forecasters shows the area covered by the warning spans the northern half of Ulster as well as much of western Britain.
The latest forecast for bad weather comes just after the PSNI warned motorists on Sunday to “exercise caution on the roads following freezing overnight temperatures, particularly in rural areas”.
If the bad weather persists into Thursday it will coincide with a large scale strike expected to see thousands of public sector workers down tools in protest over pay and conditions.
The Met Office has already issued a snow and ice warning for Northern Ireland which is in effect between 3am on Monday 9am on Tuesday.
In the Republic, Met Eireann has advised that lowest temperatures overnight will be between -3 and +1 degrees, possibly colder in the midlands.
Temperatures are forecast to drop further to -4c in parts on Monday and Tuesday night.
