The Indian men’s cricket team was on fire in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023. The Men in Blue won 10 matches in a row to secure a place in the final, but unfortunately, in the summit clash, the Rohit Sharma-led side suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Australia, which won the ODI World Cup title for a record-extending sixth time. Despite the defeat in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023, the performances of Indian players were praised by everyone around the globe.
While Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma finished as the top two run-scorers, star pacer Mohammed Shami picked up the highest number of 24 wickets in seven matches. Shami, who missed India’s first four matches, created numerous milestones in the 50-over megaevent that was played across 10 venues in India from October 5 to November 19.
Impressed by Shami’s super show in the ODI World Cup, India’s bowling coach, Paras Mhambrey, has now reserved big praise for the star bowler and said that the 33-year-old possesses a rare ability of landing the ball in an upright seam position every single time, and no coach in the world can create such a fast bowling “artist.”

“Well, if I tell you that coaches could create a bowler like Shami, then I would be lying. If a bowler can land it on an upright seam every time, then every other bowler in the world will be Shami,” Mhambrey was quoted as saying by PTI.
“It is a skill that Shami has acquired with tremendous hard work and developed himself into the bowler that he is. Bowling ball after ball on the seam with that perfect wrist position and getting it to move both ways is a rare skill set. A lot of bowlers, even if they land deliveries on the seam, will see the ball straightening up after pitching,” Mhambrey added.
“Even Bumrah, with his unusual action, gets the ball to move in or away with the same action. This is an art, and a lot of hard work and dedication go into perfecting the art.”
Shami and Jasprit Bumrah were on fire in the ODI World Cup 2023, and the dominant show by the two Indian pacers surprised Mhambrey, who was aware of the class of the two but didn’t expect such a level on a regular basis.
“I think in Test matches, we had Bumrah, Shami, and Ishant (Sharma), who created this kind of magic, but frankly speaking, if you ask me now if I would have expected this kind of dominance, I wouldn’t have dreamt of this level of performance.”
“I mean to bowl out Sri Lanka for 50 and then to repeat it against a team like South Africa, score 320 odd, and bowl them out for 80. That was surreal. Obviously, with an attack like ours, we expected them to do well, but to put up such a performance on the biggest stage for such a sustained period was something that was really commendable.”
