It’s been almost two weeks since Jayden Daniels was taken second overall by the Washinton Commanders.
They see him as their quarterback of the future and there’s a good chance he starts Week 1 if he’s ready to go.
Daniels thinks that whenever he feels like he’s ready, he’ll start.
“From what I heard, they said whenever I’m ready, I’m ready. So whenever I feel like I’m ready, I’m ready,” Daniels said.
Daniels will have to go through minicamp, training camp, and the preseason before he starts a regular season game. Assuming he does a good job during those practices and games, he’ll be the starter for the first game of the regular season.
Daniels was selected after spending the last two seasons at LSU. He spent three prior seasons at Arizona State but didn’t fully blossom until he got to LSU.
He won the Heisman Trophy for the 2023 season after he threw for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns.
It’s been a long time since the Commanders have had a franchise quarterback and they’re hoping that Daniels can be the answer.
If he’s not ready to be QB1 for Week 1, veteran free agent signing Marcus Mariota would have to step in and begin the season as Washington’s starter.
