Nintendo Switch 2 launch delayed, could debut in 2025
If you’re eagerly awaiting Nintendo’s next-generation handheld gaming console, your wait may stretch out for another year. Earlier reports hinted at a late 2024 release for the Nintendo Switch 2, but according to the latest sources, the launch has been postponed to 2025.
Publications like VGC and Eurogamer now suggest that the Nintendo Switch 2 might debut in the first quarter of 2025. While the company hasn’t officially confirmed the product’s name, it’s reportedly considering unveiling the next console in March 2025, coinciding with the 8th anniversary of the Nintendo Switch. The company could announce the console by late 2024, and it could go on sale only by early 2025.
This new launch window should allow game developers ample time to complete their work. There are expected to be several titles unveiled at launch, potentially including highly anticipated titles like Metroid Prime 4. The console is likely to be powered by a next-generation NVIDIA Tegra processor with features like real-time ray tracking and it is also speculated to include a large 8-inch display.
Currently, the Nintendo Switch stands as one of the highest-selling gaming consoles globally, outperforming even the Sony PS5 and the Xbox Series S/X. In recent years, Nintendo has released an upgraded version of the Switch featuring an OLED screen, as well as the Switch Lite, a compact and affordable version with non-removable Joy-Cons.
The Nintendo Switch originally debuted in 2017 with a price tag of $299.99, while the updated version with the OLED screen launched on October 21 for $349.99. Presently, Nintendo does not officially sell its gaming consoles in India. However, they can be readily purchased from online and offline stores, albeit at slightly inflated prices.
