On Wednesday, there would have been no one who didn’t think Kasia Niewiadoma deserved it. The Polish cyclist won the Flèche Wallonne, marking her first road victory since 2019 (!). It was a moment filled with emotions and a beautiful flash interview.

“This means a lot to me. With this victory, I hope to have inspired people who have long wanted to make their dreams come true. I have often finished second or third, but I never stopped believing that we as a team could win again. Keep believing, because the reward will come,” said an inspiring Niewiadoma.

“The race was super brutal, with low temperatures and rain,” she continued. “However, I felt that this was my day, and the conditions were on my side in that respect. I’m always good in tough races like this, so we stayed positive as a team. We were shivering, but the team greatly helped me with warm clothing, and we focused on the final.”

Niewiadoma had Wiebes’ mistake in mind during the Flèche Wallonne

When asked how it felt to beat Demi Vollering on the Mur de Huy, Niewiadoma unintentionally made a small dig at Lorena Wiebes. “To be honest, after the Amstel Gold Race, I decided to sprint until the line,” she referred to the premature celebration by the Dutch cyclist last Sunday. “I didn’t really look around, I just gave it everything. I wanted to sprint for the victory.”

“Now I want to enjoy this and maybe think about Liège on Thursday or Friday. After four years without a win, it’s important that I enjoy this,” she concluded, something she continued discussing on Eurosport. “I want to celebrate this with my teammates, because that’s the most beautiful part of such a victory.” Or as she beautifully put it: “If you know your worth and you don’t let anyone tell you that you are a failure, then anything is possible.”
