The newly-released survival-horror game Crow Country, available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, is getting great reviews from critics. Crow Country is a throwback to classic PlayStation 1 survival-horror games. Many indie titles have attempted to replicate old-school Resident Evil and Silent Hill survival-horror with mixed results, but Crow Country is certainly one of the best to take a crack at it to date.
Crow Country has been turning heads ever since its initial reveal. While the gameplay is clearly inspired by classic survival-horror games like the aforementioned Resident Evil and Silent Hill, the graphics actually have more in common with something like the original Final Fantasy 7. Crow Country features blocky characters and an art style that seems to take its cues from FF7, so the game is really doubling down on PS1-era nostalgia.

Alisa: Developer’s Cut was dropped earlier this year to similarly positive reviews, with many critics praising the new version as a substantial upgrade over the original game. Like Crow Country, Alisa: Developer’s Cut emulates survival-horror titles like Resident Evil and Silent Hill, and also like Crow Country, it has done so better than many other games that have attempted to take things back to 90s.
With games like Alisa: Developer’s Cut and Crow Country, 2024 has already given horror game enthusiasts plenty to play. For fans of bigger-scale, blockbuster horror, there should be plenty more to look forward to in the months ahead. The Silent Hill 2 remake is expected to release by the end of the year, and there have been rumblings that Capcom could be revealing Resident Evil 9 soon for a January 2025 release. Those nostalgic for the golden age of survival-horror games in the 90s should definitely check out SFB Games’ Crow Country in the meantime, if the mostly positive reviews are any indication.
