Neeru Bajwa breaks down as she recalls dad working at a gas station despite being a doctor, mom working as housekeeper during pregnancy

Actor Neeru Bajwa, who has appeared in popular Punjabi films such as Jatt & Juliet, Sardaar Ji, Shadaa, and Laung Laachi, recently opened up about her childhood in Canada where her parents had to struggle to make ends meet. Neeru, who will soon be seen in her upcoming production Shayar, grew up in Vancouver, and shared that her father had nothing when he moved to Canada from Punjab.

In a chat with Lallantop Cinema, Neeru shared that her father was a doctor in India, but in Canada, his degree was worthless. “My father had a degree, but at that time, Canada did not recognise that degree. In India, he was a doctor,” she shared. Neeru got emotional as she spoke about her parents, and said that while her mother was pregnant with her, she worked at a hotel in the housekeeping department. She added with tears in her eyes, “I take her to that hotel quite often now, when we go for staycations and pamper her now.”

She spoke about her father and said that he did many odd jobs so that he could send his kids to a private school. “He worked at a farm where he would pluck berries. Then he worked at a gas station. Then he started driving a cab. After saving some money, he bought a cab and later bought another cab,” she said.

Neeru recalled that she started working when she was only nine years old. “I used to go on a newspaper route with my cousin and we would get paid. Then I worked as a photographer in a studio, that didn’t require much skill. It was like clicking a passport size photo. I was a salesperson at a mall and I used to get minimum wage of $8 there. My last job in Vancouver was working as a cashier at a grocery store,” she recalled.

Neeru is now looking forward to the release of Shayar. She will soon also be seen in Jatt & Juliet 3 with Diljit Dosanjh.
