India’s Javelin superstar Neeraj Chopra is set to return to action to reclaim his gold medal at the Diamond League in Doha on Friday, May 10. He will also be accompanied by his compatriot Kishore Jena and the pair will be competing for the first time since the Asian Games 2023.
The Diamond League is an annual series featuring some of the best track and field athletes from across the globe in the World Athletics competition.
Neeraj Chopra is the only Indian to have to have become the Diamond League champion, which was done in 2022. However, in the last edition in 2023, Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic took the title.
Vadlejch will be part of the upcoming Doha leg and will likely give some tough competition to the Indian ace. But a point to note is that last year’s Doha leg saw Neeraj Chopra taking the win finishing above his European rival.
Ahead of the event, Neeraj Chopra also remains confident that he could break the 90-m mark and hopes that luck will favour him. But he also emphasised the importance of consistency as he believes it is one of his best assets.
The competition will also be a big test for Kishore Jena who’s stocks have been on the rise and will also be competing in the Paris 2024 Olympics along with Neeraj Chopra.
