Although the Knicks are the No. 2 seed, their reward for their first 50-win season in more than a decade is either Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers or the Miami Heat, the defending Eastern Conference champions. The tougher-than-expected first-round draw has lengthened their odds to a point where Marshall sees strong value in backing New York.

The Knicks are guaranteed home-court advantage until the Eastern Conference Finals and New York went 27-14 at Madison Square Garden this season. The Knicks will be without Julius Randle (shoulder) but the return of OG Anunoby from an elbow injury provides a huge offensive and defensive lift. The Knicks went 20-3 with Anunoby in the lineup this season, including 2-0 against the 76ers.

The Celtics are the team to beat in the East, but the Knicks most recently knocked them off, 118-198, on April 11 in their only meeting with Anunoby in the lineup. If the Knicks escape a tough first-round match, they could meet a Bucks team with uncertainties around Giannis Antetokounmpo’s health with a calf injury.
