Drivers are facing a six-mile diversion as a Cambridgeshire village road is closed for emergency repairs. Tunbridge Lane in Bottisham is partly shut to traffic from today (Wednesday, February 21) for “emergency electrical repairs and associated works”.

The road is closed in both directions between High Street and Rowley Gardens for a week until February 28. Traffic is being diverted along a route which is six miles long. It goes along Tunbridge Lane, Park Road, Park End, High Street, Quarry Lane, Swaffham Heath Road and onto the A1303 back towards the village.

A Cambridgeshire County Council closure notice said: “This notice is made in the interest of safety because of emergency electrical repairs and associated works and will remain effective whilst there is a risk of public danger but not for more than 21 days.”

It said people will still be able to access properties within the area closed to traffic. The repairs are being carried out by UK Power Networks.

The full alternative route for vehicles is via Tunbridge Lane, Park Road, Park End, High Street, Quarry Lane, Swaffham Heath Road(C218), Access Road To New England Stud Cottages From Heath Road, Cambridge To Newmarket Road, Newmarket Road, Access Road To Hilton Park Care Centre From The High Street, Beechwood Avenue and vice versa.
