As of today, Ukraine is actively negotiating for two Patriot batteries and one Samp-T, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba.
“All Patriot batteries ultimately depend on the decision of the United States, as it is an American system. We know for sure where and what is located. Currently, active negotiations are ongoing about 2 Patriot batteries and one SAMP-T battery,” the minister noted.
He pointed out that if the countries that have these systems were ready to transfer them to Ukraine now, it would be a matter of weeks for Ukraine to receive them.
Air defense for Ukraine
The Russian army has recently intensified its shelling of Ukraine. They launched several massive attacks on Ukraine during the past month. In particular, the enemy used ballistic missiles.
Currently, Ukraine has only a few systems that can shoot down ballistic missiles. One of them is Patriot. Amid the shelling, Ukrainian officials have repeatedly called on their partners to provide such systems to protect the sky.
As Kuleba noted, there are only about 100 available Patriots worldwide. To start, Ukraine would like to receive seven of these anti-aircraft missile systems.
Recently, the Air Force specified that to defend the skies over Ukrainian cities amid constant Russian strikes, 25 Patriot systems are needed.
