Mumbai Sizzles At 39.7 Degrees Celsius Marking Its Warmest April Day In 15 Years

Mumbai Maximum Temperature: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday that Tuesday’s maximum temperature in Mumbai was 39.7 degrees Celsius, making it the city’s warmest April day since 2009. The maximum temperature recorded on April 16 by the Santacruz observatory, which is representative of the suburbs of Mumbai, was 39.7 degrees Celsius, according to an IMD official.

A temperature of 35.2 degrees Celsius was recorded at the Colaba observatory.

“Our Santacruz-based observatory yesterday (Tuesday) recorded 39.7 degrees Celsius temperature, which was the highest temperature in the last 14 years (in April),” said Sushma Nair, a scientist at IMD Mumbai.

She reported that on April 2, 2009, the city recorded a high temperature of 40.6 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperatures on Monday were recorded at the observatories in Santacruz and Colaba at 37.9 degrees Celsius and 34.7 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The IMD had issued a heatwave warning for Mumbai and the nearby districts of Thane and Raigad for the past two days, on Monday and Tuesday. Though the temperature didn’t rise above 40 degrees in the capital of finance, portions of Thane and Raigad district saw temperatures above that on both days.

However, Mumbai residents received some respite from the soaring temperatures on Wednesday. The highest temperatures ever recorded at the observatories in Santacruz and Colaba were 34.7 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Although IMD officials had anticipated a slight dip in Mumbai’s maximum temperature on Wednesday, the actual drop was abrupt and sharp.
