According to a press release by NHSRCL, the ongoing work is part of package-C3 of the bullet train project, which spans from Shilphata to Zaroli village on the Maharashtra-Gujarat border. The geotechnical investigation for the entire 135 km stretch is nearing completion. Additionally, construction has begun on two mountain tunnels in the region, while pier foundation work is underway at multiple locations.
To facilitate the project, casting yards are being developed for the full span and segment casting of girders. Package C-3 of the bullet train project covers a length of 135.45 km and includes 24.027 km of viaducts and bridges, along with 5.361 km of earth structures. It also comprises 36 bridges and crossings, including 12 steel bridges, as stated by NHSRCL.

Additionally, NHSRCL has started the construction of India’s first undersea tunnel, which will span 21 km between the underground stations at Bandra-Kurla Complex in Mumbai and Shilphata in Thane district. The tunnel work involves the use of three boring machines, with approximately 16 km being constructed using this method and the remaining 5 km utilising the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM).
