More interest in Kaizer Chiefs R40 million man as Europeans enter!
Kaizer Chiefs could be braced for a mammoth offer for one of their key players.
Edson Castillo was reported to have been offered a contract extension at Chiefs after increasing interest in his services.
Castillo was Chiefs’ standout performer during the first half of the season, adjusting well to the local league. The Venezuelan joined Chiefs from Monagas SC and hit the ground running for Chiefs. The 29-year-old has been a mainstay in the club’s midfield, both in defence and attack. His box-to-box nature has seen him make some big tackles, telling passes and even arrive late to score himself. Castillo has already bagged five goals in all competitions for the club so far.
His performances have caught more than just the eye of the South African football fraternity, with some continental rivals also rumoured to be interested in taking Castillo away from Chiefs. Earlier this year, this publication reported that Zamalek wanted the player. It was then established that Amakhosi wanted a whopping R40 million for him.
Castillo unhappy at Chiefs?
This publication recently revealed that Chiefs were willing to sell Castillo to Zamalek for R30 million now. Zamalek are now facing a transfer ban, which has put that move in jeopardy. That, however, that does not mean the player isn’t looking for a move elsewhere, still! This after the publication also reported on Wednesday that the box-box star was far from happy with his reduced minutes.
Now according to Soccer-Laduma, in addition to Zamalek, Castillo has received interest from Europe!

“They wanted to increase his value because if you have a long term contract with a club then your value goes up. There are about three teams which have shown serious interest in him. One in North Africa and two in Europe and he is also looking at that as a way of enhancing his national team chances. So, that could be the other reason why he wants to leave,” said the source.
It now remains to be seen if Chiefs can convince Castillo to stay, or decide to rather cash in on him.
