Montreal launches cruise season with ship that protected 1,500 Ukrainian refugees
So this ship has a particularly interesting history tied to the Ukrainian war. What month were the did the refugees come in like in 2020, two, 2022 they came on board in June until September and we hosted more than 1500 refugees. We we docked in the port of Rotterdam and then the refugees came all the time with buses, they stayed, there was a lot of children. We hosted them, looked after them and make sure that they can have to relatively normal. At that time what we have, we had a lot of activities, for example, which we changed the leader of to an art centre, so arts and crafts and keep them busy. And what we have done, we framed about 5 paintings and made a permanent remote memorial for that time and to remember what’s happening in the world and to remember what we did. So I’m very thankful to Holland, America’s captain and to the Dutch authorities for having hosted 1500. The Ukrainian refugees, mostly women and children and as you have seen both from the drawings and the and the book and in the painting, they have been hosted in a in a very friendly manner, which is quite a difference from what the horrors that they’ve experienced before boarding this ship. So you are very grateful for the to the Dutch authorities for having hosted the Ukrainian refugees. You look at the kids. You know you can feel the how afraid they were. They they you know there was no happiness on the field. The trauma was they had it from the the whole thing because they travel all the way just to find a place where they can live. They feel safe and the The thing is most of the women were was without their men. You know they were just with the kids and and then you can see on on whenever they come of course they found this place and all but they were happy but at the same time you can feel they’re not very happy. They cannot express themselves. It’s just a good reminder of what war does. It’s not. Does not benefit anyone.
