Pitso Mosimane and Kaizer Chiefs are a duo many supporters in South Africa would like to see. However, this collaboration would come with inherent risk.
How Pitso’s potential arrival could affect Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs fan-favourite Zwane gets shuffled around again
Although his tenure as head coach didn’t go according to plan, Arthur Zwane is still a much-loved member of the Kaizer Chiefs community and plays an important role as the assistant coach. If Pitso Mosimane were to come on board, he’d bring his technical staff along and that would mean Zwane has to go.
Johnson moves back to the academy
As we have known for a while, current interim boss Cavin Johnson will return to his role of Head of Academy at the end of the campaign. He won’t be uprooted, but he’ll need to settle into an adjusted role which won’t happen overnight.

A new playing philosophy
The sternest Chiefs critics believe the club doesn’t have a distinctive playing style or philosophy. Whether or not that’s true, a new coach would have to implement improved tactics and a fresh way of thinking. Are Amakhosi fans ready to embark on yet another waiting game? They aren’t notoriously the most patient supporters in South Africa.
Massively increased expectations and zero guarantees
Pitso Mosimane’s CV as a manager hardly needs to be repeated. The man’s glittering career has become a beacon for coaches around Africa and Chiefs would adjust their expectations of him accordingly. Even the great man can’t be expected to deliver local and continental glory right away. However, that’ll likely be his mandate. And if he fails, what then? Rumours of a move for Brazilian boss Alexandre Gallo are also abounding.

Every action has a subsequent reaction, so they say, so Chiefs must think long and hard about how hiring Pitso would completely rearrange their entire landscape.
