Michael Owen has named three Premier League stars that would improve title-chasing Arsenal.

The Gunners have enjoyed another impressive season under Mikel Arteta, amassing 71 points from 32 games to rival Manchester City and Liverpool for the title.

Arsenal, who finished five points behind Man City last season, have the best defensive record in the Premier League and had the best attacking record prior to the weekend when they suffered a bruising defeat at home to Aston Villa after City thumped Luton Town.

Despite Arsenal challenging for the title and reaching the latter stages of the Champions League, ex-England striker Owen believes there is one area they can still strengthen.

The Gunners are chasing multiple trophies without a prolific striker – Bukayo Saka is their top scorer this season with 18 goals in all competitions.

Gabriel Jesus has endured a frustrating season – contributing just four league goals – while Kai Havertz has often been deployed as a false nine.

Given Arteta’s options up front, Owen believes there are at least three Premier League players who would improve Arsenal if they moved to the Emirates Stadium.

Discussing Arsenal’s reported interest in Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, Owen told Premier League Productions: ‘He is a player who is getting better and better year on year.

‘He’s the type of player who could go into the Arsenal team, whether or not they can buy him is another thing.

‘There are a lot of players in the Premier League at the moment who would probably be an upgrade on what Arsenal have right now.

‘You’re looking at [Alexander] Isak up at Newcastle, maybe Ivan Toney at Brentford and Ollie Watkins at Aston Villa.’

Arsenal have been linked with moves for Watkins, Isak and Toney ahead of the summer transfer window.

Watkins has netted 19 Premier League goals this season to boost his Euro 2024 chances, while Isak has impressed with 17 goals in 21 league starts. Since returning from his ban, Toney has scored four goals for struggling Brentford and netted on his first start for England.
