Meet the Mets
Christian Scott was fantastic in his major league debut, striking out six Rays hitters and allowing just one run over 6 2⁄3 innings of work. But the Mets’ anemic offense struck again, as they fell to the Rays 3-1. The game was a pitcher’s duel early and the Rays won the battle of the bullpens; Adam Ottavino and Sean Reid-Foley each walked in a run with the bases loaded in the eighth to put the Rays ahead, where they would ultimately remain.

Yesterday the Mets recalled Cole Sulser from Triple-A Syracuse in addition to Christian Scott. Danny Young and Dedniel Núñez were optioned to make room for them on the roster.
Christian Scott got 18 swings and misses from Rays hitters last night, which is the most by a Mets pitcher in any outing this season.
Major League Baseball is supposedly committed to improving the quality of the new uniform pants, which rip too often and show too much. Brandon Nimmo is skeptical about when these changes will be made.

“We are unlikely to make the playoffs this year,” said Marlins president of baseball operations Peter Bendix yesterday when reflecting on the trade that sent Luis Arráez to the Padres. He also said he didn’t know whether Jazz Chisolm Jr. will be on the Marlins’ roster at the end of the season.

The Marlins are paying Luis Arráez’s contract down the the minimum in their deal with the padres, which was a big motivator for the San Diego in sending the prospects Miami’s way to get it done.
Meanwhile, the Athletics dropped 20 runs on the hapless Marlins last night as if to make Bendix’s point.
The Phillies unloaded for double-digit runs—five of them in the first inning—to defeat the Giants 14-3.
But the Phillies were dealt a massive blow yesterday with the news that Trea Turner will miss at least six weeks with a hamstring injury.
The Blue Jays dropped a four spot on the Nationals in the first inning due to some shoddy defense and Washington went on to lose 6-3.
Max Muncy went deep three times, as the Braves fell to the Dodgers 11-2.
The Braves placed reliever Pierce Johnson on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation. Righty Jackson Stephens was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett to take Johnson’s place on the Braves’ roster.
