Carlo Biado adds World 10-Ball Championship to collection

Carlo Biado added another accomplishment to his resume after capturing the World 10-Ball Championship following a 3-1 victory over Japan’s Naoyuki Oi in the final held Saturday (Sunday Manila time) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Biado outclassed Oi in the championship match that used a best-of-five format to take home the top purse of $75,000 (P4.202 million) and add a second world title to his already-decorated pool career.

The 40-year-old Biado also took the World 9-Ball Championship (currently known as the World Pool Championship) during the 2017 event in Doha, Qatar.

It was also the second time he won a major title in the United States after taking the US Open in 2021.

He was the lone Filipino to compete in the tournament sanctioned by the World Pool Association as one of the 64-ranked players of the sport’s international governing body.

Biado opened his campaign by defeating Australia’s Justin Sajich, American Shane Van Boening and Taiwan’s Lin Wu Ku with similar 2-0 best-of-three wins in the eliminations.

Taiwan’s Ko-Ping Chun was also shown the door by Biado in the quarterfinals, 3-2, before taking down Russia’s Fedor Gorst, 3-1, in the semis.

The final saw Biado taking the first game, 4-1, before Oi responded by winning the next, 4-3.

But Biado came through with a 4-2 win in the third game and 4-1 in the fourth to emerge as the tournament’s kingpin.
