SHAH ALAM – London and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are top destinations for Malaysian travelers celebrating Aidilfitri this year, according to Andalusia Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd.

The company’s Executive Chairman Datuk Md Daud Che Ngah, noted that the presence of family and relatives in these regions was a significant draw.

Md Daud highlighted that the Middle East and Europe are more affordable during Syawal, encouraging many to plan their holidays then.

“This year, the decrease in ticket prices, daily expenses, and hotel costs makes London and the UAE particularly appealing compared to during Ramadan,” he told Sinar.

He added that the trend benefitted not only familial bonds, as families reunite to celebrate Aidilfitri, but also Malaysia’s economy.

The movement of Malaysians and foreign workers from the Middle East back to their homelands during this period significantly boosted the country’s economy.

According to Md Daud, travellers began their journeys as early as March 27, with about 380 people choosing to spend Eid abroad, boosted by extended holiday breaks this season.

“The post-Covid-19 economic recovery is also a factor, with more people eager to travel during the holidays,” he said.

He further noted that from April 5 to April 10, 2024, there was a noticeable increase in departures, with flight bookings peaking around Eid.

“Flight schedules are completely full for the two weeks surrounding Eid, encompassing the week before and the week after the festival,” he added.
