The Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday that Canada has not given India any particular or pertinent information regarding the murder of Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, days after Canadian police announced they had detained three Indian citizens in connection with the incident.

“Canada has informed us about the arrest. But we have not got any formal communication… No specific or relevant evidence or information has been given to us in this matter,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told the media.

According to Canadian police, three Indian nationals living in Edmonton – Karan Brar (age 22), Kamalpreet Singh (age 22), and Karanpreet Singh (age 28) – have been charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Trudeau mentioned three arrested people, but Canadian authorities have not been able to find any connection between them and the supposed operatives of the Indian government.

Days after the arrest of three Indian nationals, Justin Trudeau, the prime minister of Canada, who has repeatedly suggested that India was responsible for Nijjar’s killing, stated that investigations are still ongoing and that there is a “separate and distinct investigation not limited to the involvement of the three people arrested”.

The three males men taken into custody last week by Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) investigators, who were assisted by members of the Edmonton Police Service, the British Columbia and Alberta Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

The suspects entered Canada on “student visas but may have been working at the direction of Indian intelligence when they shot Nijjar,” according to a Global News article that cited sources.
