Mavericks vs. Clippers Game 6 results, highlights from 2024 NBA Playoffs

Final: Mavericks 114, Clippers 101

12:24 a.m.: That’ll do it. The Mavericks put a bow on a decisive victory behind 30 points from Kyrie Irving and 28 points and 13 assists from Luka Doncic.

The Clippers got 20 points from Norman Powell off the bench, but 18 points on 18 shots from Paul George and 16 points on 16 shots from James Harden wasn’t going to get the job done. Dallas is moving on.

12:16 a.m.: The Clippers tried hacking Dereck Lively and the strategy didn’t work. Lively hit three of four free throws to give the Mavericks a 111-95 lead. LA’s late efforts are going to come up short.

12:11 a.m.: The Clippers aren’t going down without a fight. LA is on a 13-2 run to cut the Mavericks’ lead to 13, 108-95, with 3:11 remaining. 3-pointers from Norman Powell and P.J. Tucker, and an and-one from James Harden led the late push.

12:06 a.m.: Kyrie Irving are you kidding me?! The Mavericks star converts a four-point play on a fadeaway jumper in the corner. That should do it for the Clippers, who are trailing 106-82 with 5:38 to play.

12:02 a.m.: Luka Doncic looked like he overthrew Derrick Jones Jr. on a lob but Jones went up and threw it down as the American Airlines Center crowd exploded. The Mavericks have their largest lead of the night, up 100-78 with seven minutes to go.

12:01 a.m.: The call was overturned. The Mavericks remain in the lead, 98-78, with eight minutes left in the game.

11:56 p.m.: The Clippers are challenging a Luka Doncic and-one that would potentially put the Mavericks up by 23 points with a made free throw. It’s desperation time for head coach Ty Lue and his team.

11:51 p.m.: Time is ticking on the Clippers’ season. The Mavericks have extended their lead to 20 points, up 96-76, with 9:24 to play. Kyrie Irving didn’t cool off in between quarters, scoring the first five points for Dallas out of the break. He’s up to 20 points on the night with 18 in the second half.

End of third quarter: Mavericks 87, Clippers 72

11:42 p.m.: Kyrie Irving is trying to put the Clippers away. After scoring two points the entire first half, Irving came alive with 13 points in the third to give the Mavericks an 87-72 lead going into the fourth quarter.

11:32 p.m.: Kyrie Irving gets on the floor for a steal then buries a deep 3-pointer to put the Mavericks up 72-58 midway through the third quarter. After a quiet first half, Irving is playing much more aggressively out of the gate.

11:23 p.m.: DANIEL GAFFORD! The Mavericks center posterizes Ivica Zubac to get the crowd going.

11:17 p.m.: And here come the Mavericks. Dallas opens the second half on an 8-0 run speared by its star duo.

Luka Doncic assisted Kyrie Irving on a bucket, then PJ Tucker got called for an offensive foul. Doncic responded with a 3-pointer, then two possessions later, Irving buried a 3-ball off a Terance Mann turnover. The Mavericks are back in front, 60-52, in the first two minutes of the third quarter.

Halftime: Mavericks 52, Clippers 52

10:59 p.m.: The Clippers took their first lead of the game in the final seconds of the first half but the Mavericks tied it back up going into the break.

Luka Doncic has 18 points and seven assists but he is 0-for-7 from 3-point range. Kyrie Irving has yet to make his impact felt, scoring just two points on 1-of-6 shooting from the field. Paul George leads the way for the Clippers with 14 points but James Harden helped turn the tied with his playmaking. We’re in for a chippy second half.

10:57 p.m.: The Clippers are on a 15-2 run to tie the game at 48! LA is locking down on the defensive end and James Harden is starting to create some easy looks for others with seven assists.

10:50 p.m.: Norman Powell is keeping things close for the Clippers. He has eight points with six in the second quarter. LA trails Dallas 46-40 with 3:33 to play in the half.

10:47 p.m.: The Clippers are sticking around but need more from James Harden and Russell Westbrook. Harden is 1-for-6 from the field with seven points. Westbrook hasn’t scored and missed all three of his shot attempts.

10:40 p.m.: Injury update — Maxi Kleber has a right shoulder sprain and is doubtful to return, per ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.

10:36 p.m.: The Mavericks are starting to open this game up a bit, leading 40-30 with 8:17 to play in the half. P.J. Washington’s 3-point shooting has made a difference, knocking down three of his five attempts.

10:31 p.m.: Mavericks forward Maxi Kleber took a dangerous hard fall on a layup attempt which caused a stoppage in play. He remained in the game and made one of two free throw attempts, but checked out immediately after.

End of first quarter: Mavericks 34, Clippers 26

10:23 p.m.: The Mavericks are playing with much more energy than the Clippers and the American Airlines Center crowd is feeding off it.

Luka Doncic is off to a hot start with 14 points and four assists. Dallas has separated itself with 10 offensive rebounds. Paul George is doing his best to keep LA in striking distance with a team-high 10 points.

10:09 p.m.: A little bit of life for the Clippers! James Harden hit a floater and Paul George buried a 3-pointer to cut the Mavericks lead to five, 20-15. There are just under four minutes to play in the quarter.

10:06 p.m.: Luka Doncic set up P.J. Washington for a wide-open 3-pointer, then got an easy two for himself. His playmaking is shining through already with eight points and two assists. The Mavericks lead 20-10 with five minutes left in the frame.

9:59 p.m.:  Dereck Lively corralled an offensive rebound and kicked it out to P.J. Washington for a 3-pointer, forcing a Clippers timeout with the Mavericks leading 13-6. Dallas is killing LA on the offensive glass early on, grabbing six offensive boards to the Clippers’ four total rebounds.

9:50 p.m.: Luka Doncic knocks down a one-legged runner and the Mavericks are on the board to get this one underway.

Pregame

9:45 p.m.: The Mavericks will start Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, Derrick Jones Jr., P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford.

9:45 p.m.: The Clippers will start James Harden, Terance Mann, Paul George, Ivica Zubac and — in surprising fashion — PJ Tucker.

8:45 p.m.: Kyrie Irving is getting locked in for a potential series-clinching win for the Mavericks.
