Mauricio Sulaimán defiende al Canelo y su negativa a enfrentar a Benavídez: "Claro que lo protegemos"

El presidente del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo aclaró la situación en el programa de David Faitelson en TUDN.

El presidente del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo (CMB), Mauricio Sulaimán, habló sobre el tema de por qué Saúl Álvarez aún no tiene una pelea contra David Benavidez, esto en la previa del duelo contra Jaime Munguía el 4 de mayo en Las Vegas.

“Hay un amplio desconocimiento de lo técnico, de los reglamentos. David Benavidez ganó la posición de retador oficial en marzo del año pasado y pasa un año para que se haga efectiva esa orden, entonces antes de marzo de este año ya se había firmado Benavidez en 175 libras. No se ha roto ningún orden, ninguna regla.

“Benavidez se fue. Él sigue siendo el retador oficial de la 168 libras. En marzo debería haber salido la carta para la pelea obligatoria, antes de eso Benavidez decidió pelear en peso semicompleto, una división arriba por un título interino.

“Él después de la pelea va a decidir si quiere ser retador oficial de 175 o de 168, no se rompió nada, pero es una historia que causa mucha polémica y que alimenta a los detractores del Canelo o del Consejo o del boxeo”, aclaró Sulaimán y aceptó que el CMB protege a Canelo, como todos los organismos lo hacen con sus campeones.

“Claro que sí lo protegemos, así como protegemos a todos nuestros campeones, a todos nuestros boxeadores. Saúl ha demostrado a través de su carrera que es alguien que se ha ganado absolutamente el reconocimiento de ser el boxeador número uno del mundo. De ser el mejor pagado, la mayor atracción en todo el mundo”.

Sobre la contienda de este sábado en la T-Mobile Arena de Las Vegas, Mauricio Sulaimán comentó que Munguía tiene argumentos para aprovechar el declive natural de Canelo.

“Para mí es probable, es una línea muy ligera. Tú nunca sabes cuándo se pasa ese estafeta. Canelo se ha visto lento, se ha visto cansado en los últimos rounds, tira pocos golpes, administra muy bien sus tiempos”.
