Victorian nurses and midwives vote 'no' to pay offer
More than a third of home loan customers facing financial hardship dropped requests for help
Nurses and midwives have rejected the Victorian government's latest pay offer, just days after closing hospital beds across the state.
The deal, which could have seen an 18 to 23 per cent pay rise over four years, fell at a mass meeting in Melbourne this afternoon.
Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation Victorian branch secretary Lisa Fitzpatrick said they would contact the government to "sit down at the table" again.
Victorian nurses have voted 'no' to pay deal.
"We voted 'no'. We didn't agree to the conditions," one nurse told 9News.
"We didn't feel that it was good enough."
Most union members said they wanted to wait to see how pending Fair Work decisions could impact pay allowances and rates such as for aged care workers.
The federation had previously rejected the government's offer of a 3 per cent pay rise and an annual $1500 payment.
It's unclear what the vote will mean for protected action moving forward.
