Taking to Twitter/X, the consumer champion said: “If you’ve questions about ‘car finance what happens next’. I’m afraid we don’t know what ‘normal’ is yet, this is just too new. Yet I’ve dedicated a team to analysing responses from different firms, so we can help you through it and will update over the next few weeks.
“Remember though 1) You gave them 28 days to respond (if you used my template) 2) No ruling will happen before Sept 3) Even if they say “you had commission, but we think you don’t have a case, you can go to the Ombudsman” the job is done. That means your complaint is registered.

“They’re just trying to put you off.” A follower on the social media site wrote back: “Thanks @MartinSLewis just completed the form I wouldn’t have bothered if it wasn’t for the advice on MSE website which is super easy and hopefully many more will be helped Thank you and have a lovely weekend.”
Emily said: “FYI I didn’t get a response on the Volkswagen finance email address you suggested on the tool- I would have at least expected an automated response but then I got an acknowledgement quite quickly on [email protected] might be worth updating the suggested contact.”
“I completed Kia Finance own “Contact Us” form on their website which included complaints re DCA – not even an automated reply/date stamp of receipt. So have sent @MartinSLewis template so I have record of email sent. Will await acknowledgment,” Sarah fumed.
Jason said: “My guess is NOTHING. It wasn’t illegal so wasn’t mis-selling l. I can see the companies fighting this in the courts. PPI was different, it wasn’t a fair product and as a BM in the trade I avoided selling it. This though is just dealers buying low selling high and wasn’t illegal.”
Louise said: “Got my response from Blue Motor Finance within 48 hours saying I HAD been charged and they will now treat my letter as a formal complaint.”
