Jay Slater's disappearance linked to 'stolen Rolex' theory explained after police probe

Spanish police are reportedly investigating a lead involving an expensive watch possibly linked to the disappearance of Jay Slater.

Apprentice bricklayer Jay, 19, went missing on Monday, June 17, after travelling to an Airbnb in the remote village of Masca with two men he met while on holiday in Tenerife for the NRG rave festival. The British teen, from Lancashire, disappeared around 8am following an attempt to walk back to his accommodation in the south of the island on foot.

It has now been two weeks since he vanished and yesterday, the Civil Guard announced the end of active, on-the-ground search efforts. A spokeswoman said: "The search operation has now finished although the case remains open." Many theories have emerged about Jay vanishing and officials are understood to be looking into a lead involving a stolen Rolex watch.

Shortly after Papagayo Beach Club closed in the early hours of Monday morning - where Jay was pictured partying - a fight broke out involving a man who allegedly had a valuable Rolex watch stolen. According to MailOnline, one of Slater's friends, who had travelled to Tenerife to join the search for him, suggested to police that it could have led to Jay going missing.

It is not clear how the incident could be linked to the teen's disappearance, though there is an unsubstantiated theory that the Rolex somehow ended up in the rural mountainous region where Jay vanished. Police reportedly confirmed they were studying CCTV and security camera footage on Saturday, and there has since been no update.

The Civil Guard made one final push to find Jay on Saturday, putting out a call to arms and encouraging all emergency services to return to the main search site, including any volunteers experienced in that terrain. It was promised to be a massive search by police, but TikToker Paul Arnott, who has travelled to Tenerife to undergo his own search, slammed the last-ditch effort.

He said on his account: "So, guys, I've literally been waiting for absolutely ages now. This is a massive PR thing, I'm telling you now. I'm gonna ask him in a second to take my name off the list. I'm just gonna go down there and do my thing. I'm gonna do that now, I think. Because there's people everywhere. Literally people everywhere and nobody's doing anything."

He has since suggested that a pair of sunglasses could be a clue in his search. He said earlier today: "Moving forward a lot of new things have come out due to interviews. There's quite a few things I'm gonna chase up today as well. One is a three words GPS. The other, apart from that, is a pair of sunglasses that were found by a man called Chris, who I'll be meeting up with later today."
