Marcos confident 8% GDP growth doable in his term

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has ordered a grace period on the ban on select electric vehicles on national roads, during which violators will not be given tickets and fines.

In a statement issued Thursday, Marcos said he ordered the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and local government units in Metro Manila to provide  leeway for e-bikes, e-trikes, and other affected vehicles that continue to ply national roads of Metro Manila.

He did not provide a timeline for the grace period.

“Ang sakop ng grace period ay hindi pag-ticket, pag-multa, at pag-impound ng mga e-trike,” he said.

“Kung paparahin man sila, ito ay upang maayos na maituro ang mga kalsadang maari nilang gamitin, pati na ang pagpapaalala ng mga bagong patakaran na ipinapatupad upang paigtingin ang kaligtasan at kaayusan sa mga lansangan,” he added.

(The grace period covers no ticketing, fines, and impound of e-trikes… If they are flagged, this would be for them to be properly taught on the roads they may use, and remind them of the new regulations being implemented to intensify road safety and order.)

The ban on tricycles, puscharts, pedicabs, kuligligs, e-bikes, e-trikes, and light e-vehicles (EVs) on some 20 national roads in Metro Manila took effect on Monday, April 15, 2024.

“Kailangan pang magbigay ng sapat na panahon para sa malawak na pagsisiwalat ng impormasyon hinggil sa ban na ating ipinapatupad,” Marcos said.

(There needs to be sufficient time for information dissemination involving the ban being implemented.)

According to the MMDA, the ban covers the following roads:

  • Recto Avenue
  • Pres. Quirino Avenue
  • Araneta Avenue
  • Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue
  • Katipunan/C.P. Garcia
  • Southeast Metro Manila Expressway
  • Roxas Boulevard
  • Taft Avenue
  • Osmeña Highway or South Super Highway
  • Shaw Boulevard
  • Ortigas Avenue
  • Magsaysay Boulevard/ Aurora Boulevard
  • Quezon Avenue/ Commonwealth Avenue
  • A. Bonifacio Avenue
  • Rizal Avenue
  • Del Pan/Marcos Highway/ McArthur Highway
  • Elliptical Road
  • Mindanao Avenue
  • Marcos Highway
  • Boni Avenue
  • España Boulevard

Among those exempted are tricycles if they are traveling no more than 500 meters on the covered roads going to or coming from a U-turn slot, and light electric vehicles on bike lanes. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
