President Ferdinand ”Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has ordered the integration of all the country’s flood control management projects under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
”This is a direct instruction of the President to me, that we have to integrate all these components in the… particularly in the major projects, flood control projects of the department,” DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said during a press briefing in Malacañang on Tuesday.
”So, this is what we are going to do in… although there have been some flood control projects that the department has been implementing with these components. But we will, of course, enhance actually the formulation of the other structures that are needed for irrigation, water supply and power because the budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways over the years have… for flood control program is increasing tremendously,” he added.
Bonoan said that for fiscal year 2024, the total budget of the DPWH for flood control projects for both foreign-assisted and locally funded is about P300 billion.
”I think this is a good source of what the President calls the integrated water resource management program for irrigation, water supply and the power if necessary,” Bonoan said. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
