It’s anything but seventh heaven for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Leafs’ season ended with a 2-1 overtime loss against the Boston Bruins in Game 7 of their first-round series on Saturday night at TD Garden.
David Pastrnak scored the overtime winner for Boston.
The Bruins have won seven series in a row against the Maple Leafs, including the past four in seven games.
The Leafs rallied from a 3-1 series deficit before falling just short of advancing. It marked Toronto’s seventh loss in a row in a winner-take-all game.
The Bruins avoided becoming the first team in NHL, MLB or NBA history to blow two 3-1 series leads in a row after they lost to the Florida Panthers last year in the first round.
William Nylander opened the scoring midway through the third period for Toronto with his third goal in two games, but Hampus Lindholm tied it mere minutes later.
Leafs goalie Ilya Samsonov replaced Joseph Woll, who was sidelined with an undisclosed injury suffered in Game 6. Woll was stellar the past two games in place of Samsonov, who wasn’t at his best in the first four games of the series.
Meanwhile, Leafs star centre Auston Matthews returned after missing the past two games with an undisclosed ailment.
The Panthers host the Bruins in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals on Monday on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
