For a rainy weekend pick-me-up: SweetBoy.
Every Friday our editors compile a trusty list of recommendations to answer the most pressing of questions: “Where should I eat?“ Here now are four places to check out this weekend in Los Angeles. And if you need some ideas on where to drink, here’s our list of the hottest places to get cocktails in town.
For a rainy weekend pick-me-up: SweetBoy
For a rainy weekend pick-me-up: SweetBoy.
The weekend forecast isn’t looking great for those ready for sunny skies and summer warmth, with temperatures predicted to hover in the 50s accompanied by a constant drizzle. The ideal antidote for all that ails, especially unseasonably cold weather, is sensational sweets made by Ben Sidell. The pastry chef at West Hollywood seafood spot Saltie Girl and founder of the SweetBoy bakery pop-up offers his signature desserts for takeout. Place an order for half a dozen chocolate chip cookies that are thick, gooey, ever so crisp, and chock-full of chocolate. Also terrific are the chocolate “brix,” hefty hand-held loaves that are rich and fudgey. Or better yet, try the limited-edition yuzu coconut babka made with cardamom and coconut. 8615 W. For a deeply satisfying breakfast burrito: Wake & Late
For a deeply satisfying breakfast burrito: Wake & Late
LA is a breakfast burrito town. Across the city, there is no shortage of egg and bacon-laden behemoths or options stuffed with chorizo and beans. Among the bevy of options, I keep going back to the one from Wake & Late, which comes with cheddar cheese, crispy tater tots, eggs, bacon, avocado, and a side of cilantro crema. Though at first glance, the burrito may not be as large as some of the others found around LA, it makes up for it in pure filling density. The fillings are distributed so each bite gets a bit of everything, and it is the right amount of salt without becoming overwhelming. For those not in the mood for bacon, Wake & Late also offers a steak option, a vegetarian option, and a vegan option with vegan cheese and a tofu scramble. 105 E. 6th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90014. — Rebecca Roland, associate editor
For a parade of super-fresh seafood with a sunny patio situation: Saltie Girl
For a parade of super-fresh seafood with a sunny patio situation: Saltie Girl.
The custom shellfish platters at Saltie Girl are the ideal way to spend an afternoon on a Sunset Strip patio, with seats either facing the restaurant interior or right onto the street, where cars drive by way too fast, and sirens abound. You’ll be annoyed by the discrepancy between the two large clocks on the street from watchmaker F.P. Journe, a timepiece boutique that sells watches for five or six figures. Once Saltie Girl’s offerings arrive, they’ll steal the show from the environs, like tinned fish plates served with crusty sourdough bread and one of the most delicious kinds of butter I’ve had in LA. The shellfish trays come with pristine oysters, sweet raw clams, and hulking Jonah crab claws that feel ultra-luxurious, though I’d prefer a standard ramekin of mignonette over the eyedroppers nestled into the pebble ice. Moules frites, served with a mountain of golden brown fries, is the entree to share with the table. 8615 Sunset Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA, 90069 .— Matthew Kang, lead editor
For soulful bites of West Africa and Los Angeles: Two Hommés

When Marcus Yaw and Abdoulaye Balde took over the Comfort L.A. space in 2021, they had a vision. Hailing from Ghana and Senegal, the two chefs thought LA could use a restaurant that melds West African flavors with Los Angeles. The room is designed for communal dining with long tables and is ideal for anyone dining before a game or concert at the adjacent SoFi Stadium. No matter the endeavor, head over to Two Hommés with a group and order to share. Everyone will want to sample the jollof rice, garlic noodles, passionfruit shrimp ceviche, honey berbere chicken bites, and Senegalese smoked lamb shoulder egg rolls with plantains and cabbage. If there for brunch, order the fresh biscuits served with honey butter and strawberry jam. Also worth considering are the shrimp and grits and the crab cakes, which are hearty and filling. 902 N.
