Mamelodi Sundowns to release EIGHT players?

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to have yet another busy transfer window at the end of the season.

With all their incomings over the years, Sundowns’ outgoings are set to be equally important this time around.

Despite already cruising in the DStv Premiership, Sundowns were the most active side in the January window. The Brazilians already had a nine-point gap on second placed Cape Town City, with three games in hand at the time. That did not stop them from pursuing a squad boost ahead of the second half of the season. Of course for them, they also have to factor continental commitments with hopes of a Club FIFA World Cup too.

Now with that on the horizon, Sundowns went and signed the Likes of Zukho Mdunyelwa, Matias Esquivel. Then when everybody thought that they had strengthened enough, they add Thembinkosi Lorch and Tashreeq Matthews. The Rulani Mokwena-led side are showing no signs of slowing down on the transfer market ahead of next season. The South African News already understands that Masandawana have wrapped up a deal to sign Jayden Adams from Stellenbosch FC.

Window of change at Sundowns?

But as Sundowns continue to pinpoint their targets for the next window, they will have to make room. That means, a large chunk of the squad will have to be removed to usher in a refreshed, younger squad. The club currently have quite a few players on loan, with about eight senior players in the DStv Premiership.

Ricardo Goss and Etiosa Ighodaro have been loaned out to Sundowns’ Tshwane rivals SuperSport United. Goss is believed to be returning to the club while the Nigerian striker seems keen for a permanent move. He could get his wish as it is still tough to see him feature ahead of Lucas Ribeiro and Peter Shalulile. Another forgotten forward is Thabiso Kutumela who has hardly set the world alight on loan at Cape Town City. It is unlikely that he gets back into the Masandawana squad next season.

Sifiso Ngobeni who is currently on loan at AmaZulu will also find it very tough to get back into the Sundowns squad. With the likes of Divine Lunga, Aubrey Modiba and Terrence Mashego already battling it out, he could be sold. Striker Thabang Sibanyoni is also likely to be released after his loan spell at University of Pretoria.

Then younger trio of Siyanda Msani, Luvuyo Phewa at Cape Town Spurs and Promise Mkhuma at Tuks could also leave. It is unlikely that they will be seen to be ready to get into the Sundowns first team squad next season. With them not getting any younger, they could push for permanent moves.

Seven out, one returns?

So out of the eight players, seven are probably set to leave, with Goss having the best chance of a Sundowns return.
