Wally, the dog trapped inside a wall in Dasmarinas, Cavite

A dog that was trapped in the wall of a building in Dasmariñas, Cavite for about a month after being abandoned by its owner has been recused by PETA needs a forever home.

In a press release, PETA said that “Wally” was abandoned by his owner when they transferred to another residence.

Construction work was conducted on the apartment building in Cavite and the dog found itself sealed inside one of the walls for about a month.

The new tenants, PETA said, could hear the dog barking and proceeded to inform officials from Barangay Luzviminda, led by Chairman Jeffrey Galit who in turn called PETA to ask for assistance in rescuing the “Wally.”

Wally was found “emaciated and covered in wounds from trying to free himself” and had survived by drinking water from an open drainage.

“This poor dog not only endured the heartbreak and confusion of being left behind by his family but also spent weeks trapped behind a wall, barking desperately for help and struggling to escape,” said PETA Senior Vice President Jason Baker. “PETA urges everyone to come to the aid of animals in need— or to call someone who can help.”

PETA provided Wally with veterinary care and helped find a foster home through the Ampon Alaga program, which focuses on reducing the companion animal overpopulation crisis.

Wally has gained weight and is waiting to be adopted by caring guardians who would never even think of abandoning him to fend for himself.

“PETA stresses that animals are family and urges everyone to be ready to make a lifetime commitment before thinking of adopting a dog or a cat,” the organization said in a statement.

“As Wally’s story shows, animals who are abandoned endure heartbreak over the loss of their family and everything they know and are at risk of being hit by cars, succumbing to disease, or being abused. Having them spayed or neutered is the single most effective way to help prevent companion animal overpopulation,” the group also said.
