Malaysia go down 1-4 to Taiwan in opening Uber Cup finals tie

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia made a disappointing start to their Uber Cup finals campaign in Chengdu, China, when they lost 1-4 to Taiwan in their opening Group B tie today.
Malaysia had levelled the score at 1-1 before fading in the remaining three matches, Bernama reported.
Taiwan went ahead in the first match when former world No 1 Tai Tzu-ying beat Malaysia’s former world junior badminton champion Goh Jin Wei 21-19, 22-20.
Malaysia drew level in the second match when national shuttlers Go Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing beat Hsu Ya Ching-Lin Wan Ching 21-19, 21-17.
In the third match, BAM representative K Letshanaa put up a good fight before going down to Wen Chi Hsu 21-13, 17-21, 16-21.
Taiwan clinched the tie when Hu Ling Fang-Teng Chun Hsun beat Ho Lo Ee-Tan Zhing Yi 21-17, 21-11, and made it 4-1 when Sung Shuo Yun beat national singles shuttler Wong Ling Ching 21-17, 22-20.
Malaysia and Taiwan are grouped with Thailand and Australia, with the top two advancing to the quarter-finals.
