Malayalam director Sangeeth Sivan passes away
The Malayalam film industry is mourning the loss of Sangeeth Sivan, one of its most illustrious directors. Sivan, who passed away in Mumbai on May 8, 2024, was a prominent figure in both Malayalam and Hindi cinema. Born into a family deeply entrenched in filmmaking, Sangeeth was the eldest son of filmmaker Sivan. His brothers, Santosh Sivan and Sanjeev Sivan, are also notable figures in the film industry.
Sangeeth Sivan’s directorial journey began with the Malayalam film ‘Vyavaham,’ but it was his 1992 film ‘Yodha’ that marked a significant milestone in his career. ‘Yodha,’ starring Mohanlal, was celebrated for its innovative storytelling and compelling direction, which brought Sivan considerable acclaim and helped establish him as a leading director in Malayalam cinema.
Beyond his work in Malayalam films, Sivan also made substantial contributions to Hindi cinema. His Hindi directorial debut, ‘Zor,’ featured Sunny Deol and was well-received. Sivan continued to explore creative vistas, helming projects like Jackie Shroff’s ‘Sandhya’ and ‘Pantaloons’ Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne.” His films were known for their distinct narrative style and compelling storytelling, earning him a dedicated fan base across different regions of India.
Sivan’s work often included collaborations with prominent actors such as Mohanlal in ‘Nirnayam’ and ‘Gandharvam,’ both of which gained cult status among audiences. His last directorial venture was the TV series ‘Bhram,’ showcasing his versatility and continuing passion for storytelling in various formats.
