Make the most of the season with these summertime activities

MANY Filipinos look forward to summer as its vacations commonly coincide with the countless friend and family reunions inherent in Philippine culture.

Whether it’s exploring new destinations, visiting relatives, or simply doing things together on a weekend or during their leave, Filipinos take advantage of the summer season’s ample opportunities for friends or families to bond and take a break from toilsome routines.

With all this in mind, here are some summer tips on making the most of the season:

A quick beach trip

The beach is often the first thing that comes to mind when talking about summer. While some people view a beach getaway as a chance for laid-back activities such as building sandcastles, swimming or just lounging by the shore, others prefer engaging in strenuous activities such as beach volleyball, surfing, water skiing, jet skiing and other water sports.

Meanwhile, it doesn’t have to be at the beach to have fun this season. Outdoor activities such as having a picnic at a park or a mountain, biking around town, going to concerts, trying out new cafes, and catching up over drinks in a rooftop bar with stunning city views are also good choices.

While all these activities are fun and exciting, it’s equally important to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, particularly when doing physical activities amid scorching summer days. Wear hats and sunglasses to shield oneself from direct sunlight. As much as possible, wear light, loose clothes to stay comfortable and cool amid the heat. Most importantly, apply sunscreen with a high sun protection factor to protect skin from harmful ultraviolet rays.

Go malling

On days that the family can’t stand the heat at home, escape the sun and run to the nearest SM Supermalls to chill, dine, take a stroll and do some shopping.

Planning to go on a trip soon? Do not forget to pick up a pair of bikinis or swimwear at the mall. For a stylish ensemble, ladies can wear a flowy dress while the men can complement the outfit of the day or OOTD with a matching short-sleeved top and well-fitted shorts to achieve that Instagram-worthy resort look.

Dare to bare a bit of skin by opting for a classic off-shoulder top, best paired with a flattering skirt or shorts.

When shopping for summer clothes, it’s advisable to opt for light and pastel-colored ones made from summer-appropriate fabrics such as cotton or silk as they offer breathability and comfort.

Complete the summer look with accessories that enhance without overpowering such as a cute beach necklace or a chic hat-and-glasses combo for style and added sun protection.

For those who have no plans to shop, catching a movie can be an alternative if they are in the mood for some entertainment rather than visiting the stores.

There is an abundance of malls within and beyond the metro, and SM Supermalls, the largest shopping mall chain in the country, continues as one of the preferred choices of many Filipinos for its diverse offerings.

Spending a day at SM Supermalls will not be dull with the mall’s extensive selection of restaurants, shopping stores and fun activities. Families and friends can efficiently accomplish errands, attend to work matters and play games under one roof.

Inside SM Supermalls, mallgoers can challenge their friends and family members to exciting games such as bowling, billiards, darts, table tennis and even ice skating.

To get rid of all the stress and exhaustion brought on by the summer heat, friends or family members may also opt to bond over a pampering session at a salon or enjoy a soothing massage at a spa.

Before the rainy season comes in, make the most of the activities that can be enjoyed this summer, but prioritize safety and health when engaging in summer adventures.
