Madhavan says Rajkumar Hirani was asked to cut ‘all is well’ from childbirth scene in 3 Idiots: ‘They said this it’s too much’

Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots, which starred Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi and R Madhavan in lead roles, continues to be one of the most famous films of the director. The film tried to balance humour with a social message and at the time, it was quite loved by the audience. But, at the time, there were naysayers who believed that one of the most pivotal scenes of the film, should be eliminated. In a recent interview, Madhavan recalled how the people around them found that scene to be a “little too much” and advised Hirani to get rid of it.

He shared with Connect FM Canada, “I remember during 3 idiots, there was a scene when the baby is born and he is stillborn and then all the boys start chanting ‘all is well’ and the baby just kicks. When we showed the film to people, so many people said that the whole film is fine, and is in a different frequency but this is a commercial scene, this is a little too much, remove this and the film will be on the same level then.”

Madhavan said that Hirani heard everyone’s thoughts but stuck to his beliefs and did not remove the scene. “Raju heard everyone, but then he decided suno sabki karo apni (listen to everyone, but do what you want). He kept that scene because he knew that in B and C centers, this will be the scene when people applaud and he was absolutely right. At the time of the premiere, people who did not clap… in the theatre, the moment the kid kicked, the theatre just erupted with applause,” he recalled.

Madhavan was recently seen in Shaitaan, with Ajay Devgn and Jyothika. The film has made over Rs 100 crore nett in India and is currently the second biggest Hindi hit of the year after Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone’s Fighter.
