LS Polls 2024: BJP Issues Show Cause Notice To MLA Babulal Chaudhary Over Son’s Independent Candidacy
Lok Sabha Election 2024: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Uttar Pradesh unit has taken disciplinary action against Fatehpur Sikri MLA Babulal Chaudhary after his son filed nomination papers as an Independent candidate for the Fatehpur Sikri Lok Sabha seat. The party’s state general secretary, Govind Narayan Shukla, informed the media that a show cause notice has been issued to Chaudhary by the state unit chief Bhupendra Singh Choudhary, seeking his response by 5 pm on Monday. The saffron party has fielded incumbent MP Rajkumar Chahar from the constituency.
Choudhary’s letter to Chaudhary cited a complaint regarding his son’s candidacy against the BJP’s authorised nominee and questioned why disciplinary action should not be taken against him. “You are being issued a show cause notice as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against you,” the letter stated.
Babulal did not even participate in the chief minister and PM Modi’s rally. Rameshwar Chaudhary, Babulal Chaudhary’s son, was served a notice on May 2 and subsequently expelled from the party.
Babulal Chaudhary, previously elected as MP from Fatehpur Sikri in 2014 under the BJP banner, was dropped by the party in the 2019 elections in favor of incumbent MP Rajkumar Chahar, who emerged victorious against Congress’ Raj Babbar. However, Chaudhary contested and won the 2022 assembly elections as an MLA.
The Fatehpur Sikri constituency, located in Agra district, is scheduled for polling on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Congress has nominated Ramnath Sikarwar as the candidate representing the INDIA bloc.
The Lok Sabha Election 2024 is ongoing and two-phase polling has been concluded. The third phase of voting is scheduled for tomorrow, May 7. A total of 93 Lok Sabha constituencies are going to polls across 12 states and union territories. According to the Election Commission of India, the results will be announced on June 4.
