Fall From Grace: Cowboys' No. 1 Offense Takes Nosedive in Offseason Rankings
For three consecutive years the Dallas Cowboys have lit up scoreboards, broken offensive records and ... lost early in the playoffs.
Quarterback Dak Prescott, who was second in NFL MVP voting to Lamar Jackson last year, returns along with All-Pro receiver CeeDee Lamb and burgeoning tight end Jake Ferguson. But without two offensive line starters and No. 1 running back Tony Pollard, can the Cowboys again produce enough offense to get to 12 wins and hopefully multiple playoff victories?
Fall From Grace: Cowboys' No. 1 Offense Takes Nosedive in Offseason Rankings
The Cowboys were the only team to score 500+ points in 2023. In more than half of their games (10 of 17) they scored 30 or more and broke 40 five times.
Ezekiel Elliott is back in 2024. But will the Cowboys' offense be back as well?
According to Bleacher Report, not exactly. Dallas won't again lead the league, but its offense will still be Top 10. No. 10, to be exact, in its offseason rankings.
Writes B/R: "You can poke fun at the Cowboys for doing next to nothing this offseason. It's fair. Drafting Tyler Guyton and Cooper Beebe constituted big long-term moves, but signing Ezekiel Elliott is the next closest thing to a big-ticket item. But it's important to keep in mind that this was the league's highest-scoring offense in the regular season last year."
The Cowboys are counting on Zeke to turn back the clock, and young receivers like Jalen Tolbert and rookie Ryan Flournoy to quickly reach their potential.
"It's hard to see this offense reaching its ceiling without at least one more running back," B/R writes. "They could also be in the trade market for a receiver at some point. Cap constraints will make it difficult to swing for the big names like Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel, but if Jalen Tolbert or rookie Ryan Flournoy don't become consistent options by the trade deadline, the Cowboys could have to make a move."
