Lok Sabha polls 2024: Meghalaya to vote in Phase 1. Here are the key candidates

On April 19, 2024, Meghalaya will cast votes for its two Lok Sabha constituencies Shillong and Tura in the first phase of the Lok Sabha election. The first phase will witness voting for 91 seats across 18 states and two union territories.

List of candidates for 2024 polls in Meghalaya:

The candidates running for Shillong (ST) are Ricky AJ Syngkon of the Voter’s Party of India (VPP), Vincent Pala of the Indian National Congress, Ampareen Lyngdoh of the National People’s Party (NPP), and Robertjune Kharjahrin of the United Democratic Party (UDP).

Candidates for Tura (ST) are Saleng A. Sangma of the Indian National Congress, Agatha Sangma of the National People’s Party (NPP), and Zenith Sangma of the All India Trinamool Congress.

Key contenders:

CM Conrad Sangma told ANI, “We are confident of securing victory in both seats- Shillong and Tura in Meghalaya. The impact of the work carried out by NPP in Meghalaya in the last 6 years is evident, particularly in Garo Hills. The public will vote for the NPP for the development initiatives undertaken.”

“Our MP (Agatha Sangma) has made a significant contribution towards the development of the state. We urge people to come forward and support our MP. The opposition is currently fragmented, with leaders from the former Congress party dispersing into different factions. Due to this fragmented opposition, I believe we will secure victory by a considerable margin,” he added.

Lok Sabha elections 2024 schedule:

Voting for the Lok Sabha elections will take place in seven phases: the first on April 19, the second on April 26, the third on May 7, the fourth on May 13, the fifth on May 20, the sixth on May 25, and the seventh on June 1. The outcome will be announced on June 4.
